# About loam

## A website you can talk to

To a visitor, a loam site is a website like any other: fast, found by search engines, installable as an app. What is new sits behind it. Every loam site has [its own connection for an agent](/principles/mcp-with-a-trust-model) — [the assistant you already use](/byoa). Through it, people and machines work on the same site, under the same rules.

## You say it, your agent does it

You describe what you want in your own words. Your agent makes the change and keeps it as a draft; you look at the whole site as it would be, and decide. Nothing to learn, nothing to install — and every change is written down: who did it, what changed, and what was asked.

## Small on purpose

Loam was made simpler, not bigger. [No database](/principles/files-not-a-database), no plugins, no framework or packages to keep up — PHP and a folder of files, the same on a server, on a laptop or in a test. That is where its strength is: less to break, less to update, and nothing you have to understand to keep it running. [Copy the folder and you have the site](/principles/portable-by-design).

## Dependency free

A loam site is not an account on someone else's platform. Every site carries its own engine and its own connection, with its own keys — no central portal to log in to, no gate that someone else holds. You decide who works on it and with which agent. A licence brings updates, never a dependency: without it, your site keeps working.

## What stays yours

Your content stays yours to take with you, every earlier version is kept, and [visitors are not tracked](/trust).

Curious how it works inside? The principles below explain every part, and [the technical documentation](/technical) shows the engine for developers.
